The Electoral College argument, politics and social media.

The electoral college system was created to prevent political dictators from manipulating the population by allowing states to elect their president through the electoral college. In recent decades, the Electoral College (EC) has come under scrutiny, with about half of the four most recent presidents having been elected without winning the popular vote. The 538 members of the EC are responsible for electing the president and vice-president (Edwards III, 2019) . With a simple majority of 270 votes, the candidate is elected President regardless of the popular vote. The United States should retain the structure of the European Community because it fosters national cohesion, allows minority participation, and strengthens federal control.
The US should preserve the EU system because it promotes national cohesion and equality. America is a multicultural society made up of people from many places. The EC guarantees that the state will actively participate in presidential elections to prevent a digital tyranny in which the majority and the privileged elect the president, thereby limiting the chances of the disadvantaged to ascend to leadership positions (Greenberg & Page, 2018). During presidential elections, the Electoral College promotes a fair distribution of the population. It ensures the success of presidential candidates’ campaigns in different states.
The EC system abolished the dominance of the populace and now favors smaller states. The European Community balances the interests of large and small governments. A referendum system would cause parties to ignore the demands of smaller states in favor of more populous and larger states. Favoring large states will increase inequality and further polarize the country (Bugh, 2016). The EC guarantees that presidential candidates take into account the interests of all states, thereby ensuring that all states are fairly represented in the democratic process. The EC strengthens federalism by ensuring that the states actively shape the socio-political and economic direction of the country. The EC allows each state to nominate electors to vote for president. The EC undermines the framework of state government by allowing the populace to elect a president without official participation.
